Nigel Pickett

An experienced innovative operations and project director, Nigel is qualified in mechanical and production engineering and trained in process engineering, with an MBA from Cardiff Business School. He joined the National Coal Board/ British Coal working initially in mechanical engineering on surface and underground installations after which he moved into private coal research leading a successful development for the Pelletisation of fine coal. Nigel became an international management consultant and worked on Change Management business projects plus engineering turnaround projects in sectors such as Banking, Food, IT, Railways, Oil and Gas (Offshore exploration & Production, Refineries and Storage & Distribution centres), Mining and Cement, in a variety of countries and different cultures.

Nigel returned to the mining sector as a Principal Consultant in the Due Diligence Group, at SRK Consulting where he led technical and business projects on placer, open pit and underground mines on platinum, diamonds, coal, lignite and phosphate deposits. He was Project Leader for Feasibility Studies in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia mines and Innovation Audit plus Business and Technical improvement projects in Russia. Nigel is a co-founder and executive director of Legacy Hill Resources a mining venture. Nigel was responsible for mining processes and technology leading conceptual development of innovative process technology, underpinning the business strategy. He authored a patent (under application) for steel making, developing an innovative new pelleting process. Nigel is a Chartered Manager, a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.

Brendan Lynch

Brendan Lynch has been involved in the commodities business for almost twenty years, including as co- founder/CFO of Zamin Group, CFO and Board member of Gerald Group, and co-founder of Abaci Investment Management. Brendan joined Gerald Group as Global Head of M&A in 2016 before becoming the Group CFO later that year and was responsible for the legal and financial restructuring of the SL Mining - Marampa iron ore project in Sierra Leone; as acting-CEO overseeing its rehabilitation and restart. He is closely involved in Gerald’s extensive mining investment portfolio, including Labrador Iron Mines and Alphamin Tin.

Brendan led Abaci’s investment in projects in the US and Europe, including natural resource deals with Sandstorm, and Guggenheim Capital Partners. At Zamin in the mid-2000’s, Brendan headed the team negotiating the establishment of the Bahia Mineracao iron ore JV in Brazil, grew a team and funding to develop the project, raised $120m from London based funds before finalising a new JV with ENRC PLC, where Zamin earned over $300m. He served as a board member of the Bamin JV and led the negotiations resulting in ENRC exercising their right of first refusal to acquire the remaining 50% of the JV for over $750m in September 2010. Brendan qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in Ireland before joining HSBC Corporate Finance in London in 1999 where he worked on a number of take-private and IPO transactions.

Nigel works with a prestigious multifamily office in London and advises a US family trust where he is retained as asset manager. The trust has a mixed portfolio which includes a number of mines that had laid idle for 10 years or more. To ensure that the trust maximised its returns, Nigel teamed up with Nigel Pickett who not only had the skills to guide him through the processes but also shared the same passions in creating new procedures for cleaning up the industry. Current discussions centre on reducing carbon in the steel making process, sustainably extracting lithium without the need of using large bodies of water and introducing environmental changes to extract rare metals.

Nigel spent most of his life in Real Estate and later in large scale renewable energy projects partnering with key players such as Yingl Solar in China, Canals & Riverside Trust assessing hydro opportunities across the UK as well as advising the Crown Estate on solutions aimed at reducing energy costs for its shopping centre assets.
Nigel is an adamant supporter in protecting the planet for future generations and in doing his bit to expediate climate change. Nigel is responsible for business development, promoting our capabilities to both asset owners and capital providers alike.

Robert Webb’s early career was with industry in large technology companies such as TRW, Westinghouse and Commodore as VP International Business followed by Government as Canada’s Science Policy representative to the USA in Washington, DC; Canada’s representative at Wright- Patterson AFB and the National Centre for Manufacturing Sciences, Ann Arbor; Director Research Oversight and Head S&T at Defence R&D Canada, concurrently National Coordinator (Canada) at NATO Research and Technology Board, Paris and finally, Head of Trade & Investment for Pakistan/Afghanistan.

He has focused on the Minerals Sector since retiring, heading the Pakistan Extractive Working Group started by the World Bank and himself in 2012 and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) 2015-16 where he authored the published report on the Minerals Sector of Pakistan (legal, regulatory, policy, revenue management, foreign direct investment, plus environment and social aspects).
He has a B.Sc. (Hons) University of Leicester, a 1998/99 Fellow of AAAS where he chaired symposium sessions in 2004 and 2005 on “The Hydrogen Economy” and “Cognitive Interfaces: Neural Control of Machines.” He has been a member of Peer Review teams and presented papers on Technology Outlook at CCRTS in San Diego and Surprise Technology Symposium in Reston, Virginia. The Keynote speaker presenting advances in the Minerals Sector to the current Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan at the KPK conference at the Ramada Hotel, Islamabad, December 2015. He co-chaired a session on agriculture and minerals at the Punjab Economic Forum April 2017.

Andrew Malim

A founder member (1969) of the renowned James Capel & Co (HSBC) mining team, led by Julian Baring, who laid the foundations of the Mercury Asset Management mining fund management business (now the Blackrock mining funds). Andrew, an award-winning gold share analyst over a decade plus went on to set up the Lion Mining Group (Lion) in 1981.
For 23 years, Lion played a pivotal role in the analysis and financing of numerous notable mines. Lion’s business model differed from a broker or bank.

As a dedicated mining finance house, Lion’s team of qualified engineers and geologists became risk managers making a risk assessment of the asset – (‘The Risk Disc’) – presented the project plus disc to funding institutions and once funded, played an ongoing active role (oversight of development cycle) monitoring every aspect of the critical path investors early warning of deviations from the norm and any capital consequences.
His team was the financier and manager of the transition from the idea to the reality and instructed to question everything and assume nothing until it was safe to do so. Andrew has been involved in a number of successful North American gold and copper discoveries and has worked in many countries in Africa, China, Chile, and Europe.
Andrew had been an exec and non - exec board member, of numerous listed mining companies and believes that mining will always be an inexact science.

John Arthur

John has been in mining and exploration for over 30 years; as an oilfield wellsite geologist then to mineral exploration and since involved in exploration, mineral resource estimation and mine planning; with wide ranging experience from precious metals, base metals, to diamond and industrial minerals.
A Chartered Geologist and Fellow of the Geological Society of London (Cgeol FGS) is a recognised professional and meets requirements for acting as a competent/qualified person under international Mineral resource reporting guidelines (JORC, CIM, CRIRSCO). John has also completed the Prince2® project management qualification.

After an initial period as an exploration geologist in Southern and East Africa John turned to consulting and spent the following 20 years as a Principal Geologist with SRK Consulting, out of their Cardiff UK office, whilst there was involved in a wide-ranging gamut of commodities from early-stage exploration through to feasibility and production reconciliation. John also has wide ranging experience of mining technical due diligence and in a number of high-profile mergers and acquisitions (early 2000’s) within South Africa with lots of exposure to the investment community (London and Toronto).
Since leaving SRK in 2015, John has established himself as an independent geologist with a number of local UK and international clients and has worked on such diverse projects as heavy mineral sands exploration in Greenland, Phosphate due diligence in the Middle east, gold and base metals exploration and resource estimation in the DRC and Europe and Gold exploration in Pakistan.

Ryan Wilson

Ryan Wilson has over 20 years of mining experience in various mineral and metal businesses globally. He also has five years’ experience as a well site geologist and drill engineer for multiple companies in Canada. His experience spans both in technical, and business development roles at various mine operating sites.
Ryan has nearly 20 years of on-site experience specializing in mine design, site construction, project management, permitting & commissioning. He has held various management positions, including Operations, and Mine Manager. Additionally, has been responsible for defining growth strategies to lower operational costs, and expand the business.

Ryan has been involved in five successful mine start-ups to name plate design. Ryan is fluent in French, and English, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, and holds a professional engineering designation in Canada.

Amiel Blajchman is a professional Agrologist and Canadian expert in environmental and social impact assessment and community engagement. He has over 20 years’ experience working with private sector clients, Indigenous communities, government agencies, mining companies, and the World Bank in managing the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks of complex, high profile projects.
Amiel’s significant expertise has been refined in senior roles including leading an ESG consulting company, as lead sustainability executive with multiple mining companies, managing 50+ employee departments with annual budgets of >$14 million, and as a senior advisor to federal Deputy Ministers (Canada).

Amiel has delivered impact assessment training to industry, community and government, and is currently an instructor with the University of Toronto. Amiel has also been involved in developing domestic emission trading regulations and Greenhouse Gas GHG offset systems.
Amiel has led the successful permitting of two North American mines and has further experience working in over nine countries on four continents and is bilingual in French / English.
Currently, Amiel is a strategic advisor for Goodzilla, Vice-chair of an Toronto-based urban charity, and has served on several other charitable boards. Additionally, Amiel is a member of the PDAC’s CSR committee, CIM’s Environment and Social Responsibility Society and a member of the International Association of Impact Assessment.
